There are some recipes that are just made for a South African braai… and Bierbrood is definitely one of them!

Golden and crusty on the outside, soft and tender inside, and ridiculously easy to make. No yeast, no waiting for dough to rise and no complicated bread-making skills needed.

Just flour + salt + beer, mix it together, pop it in the oven and you’ve got homemade bread ready for the table. 🙌

And the best part… you can make it in a potjie too! 🇿🇦 Perfect for those days when the fire is going, the potjie is on and everyone is gathered around outside. Just make sure you use a suitable pot with a lid and manage your coals carefully for even baking.

Want to take it up a notch? Add cheese and a little chopped biltong 🤤

Serve it warm with a generous smear of butter alongside your boerewors, steak, chops, sosaties or chicken… honestly, I could happily make a meal out of the bread alone! 😂

💡 My favourite tip: Brush the hot loaf with a little butter as soon as it comes out for an extra delicious, flavourful crust.

📌 Save this recipe for your next braai or potjie day!
